Duarte, California: Large Statue of Pope John Paul II
Seven tons of white marble, nine feet tall on a four-foot base. Arms wide, the Pope greets nearby smaller statues of Buddha and the Virgin of Guadalupe. Paid for by a local Italian food and wine importer.

- In the rose garden of the City of Hope medical center. From Route 66/Huntington Drive turn south at the stoplight onto Highland Ave. Drive under the freeway and across the train tracks. After the road bends right, turn left at the second stoplight onto Hope Drive. You'll see the rose garden on the right.
