Raleigh, North Carolina: Statue of First Rebel Killed in the Civil War (Gone)
Henry Lawson Wyatt, an Edgecombe County teen, shot through the head on June 10, 1861, was immortalized as the reb's first dead in the Civil War (But it ain't so).
- Directions:
- On the northwest side of Capitol Square, set back near the Capitol building. I-40 exit 298B, follow US 70/401 north into downtown. Cross Morgan St. then make the next right onto Hillsborough St. Park on Hillsborough and walk straight to the square; the statue will be to the left.

- June 2020: Removed.

Henry Lawson Wyatt, an Edgecombe County teen, was shot through the head on June 10, 1861. It was later discovered that he wasn't the first Rebel to die in battle, but Wyatt's backers put up a statue anyway, so he got the glory.
