Eufaula, Alabama: Tree That Owns Itself
A plaque explains that the oak tree (originally the property of a Confederate officer), was granted freedom by the governor in 1936. Destroyed by a tornado on April 9, 1961. The current tree is the second to replace it, and just as self-owning.
