I visited Millennium Park in downtown Chicago and found this strange water park called Crown Fountain. Two 50-foot tall glass columns bookend a large flat area where about three inches of water accumulates. It's roughly about the length of two basketball courts, which gives kids plenty of room to run around and splash.
Water is constantly pouring down from the tops of the two columns. The columns are made up of LCD displays which show towering faces of kids - think Jumbotron at a baseball game. The faces move (grin, laugh, etc) and every so often they will pucker and out shoots a cascade a water from their mouths just like from an enormous firehouse. Kids line up just to get drenched by the spitting giants!
My two kids loved it. The waterpark is free.
