Heights Tower

It's a 200-foot-high functioning water tower, with a glass elevator up to three observation decks overlooking the Illinois River.

[Doug Dirr, 12/27/2022]

Built in 1968, the water tower is a unique design that was never attempted again (with or without a woodpecker).

Tower with Large Woodpecker

The brightly painted woodpecker can be seen from the top of the tower as well as from the ground.

[Dick Larson, 04/16/2016]

Tower with Large Woodpecker.

Tower with Large Woodpecker

Park with an unusual 200-ft. tall Observation Tower that takes you up to a lookout over the river and the beautiful estates along Grand View Drive. There is a large woodpecker hanging on the side of the tower.

For a minimal fee you can take the Willy Wonka type elevator up to the top. Could be too hot in the elevator on a sunny day.
