Columbus, Ohio: Santa Maria Replica Ship (Gone)
Built for $1.5 million as part of the city's Christopher Columbus Quincentennial Jubilee in 1991. 90 feet long, it sailed the Scioto River. Closed as an attraction in 2011. The ship now lays dismantled in a city storage lot.

The 103-ton boat cost $1.5 million -- the highlight of the city's 1992 celebration of the 500th anniversary of its namesake's discovery of America. It was built in Albany, New York, from original plans, then it was cut in half with a chainsaw and trucked to Columbus, where it was put back together.
