We arrived at the Cheese Factory around 10 am, as it just started to get busy. We waited about 10-15 minutes for cheese tasting. Little teeny tiny cubes of their cheese -- it was good, but not a have-to. You can buy cheese in the huge gift shop. Get there early, by 11 am -- parking is across the street!

Wonderful fun place to visit. So much more than just free cheese! Didn't do the self-guided tour, but enjoyed the little VW hippie van that you could sit in for photos, and some photo cutouts where you stick your head in. My kids loved the "penny squisher" machines, and the ice cream is amazing.

I lived in Portland for many years, and when traveling to the beach this was always a place we had to stop. I don't know anyone who knows about it that would pass on stopping there. It is interesting to check out the cheese making and processing process. However, the main reason we all go there is for the wonderful food. Tillamook cheese is the best I've ever had. You get free samples. Then onto the deli to get a Tillamook cheeseburger, and then to the ice cream line for some wonderful Tillamook ice cream. Just talking about it makes me wish I could visit, but I live in Indiana now :(
[Megan, 03/08/2010]When we visited, the Free Cheese line was ten minutes long, but a necessary part of the Pilgrimage (We admire TCF for its ability to work the public into a frenzy for free cheese samples, which you can get any day at most supermarkets). The upper gallery features exhibits about the cheese-making process and observation windows to watch cheese-making in action.
