Started by three guys in 1971 at another Seattle location until they moved here in 1975, but the Pike Place location is the surviving oldest operating Starbucks. Not much to look at -- until you've had your COFFEEEEEEEE!

It opens at 6 am, but the crowd really starts building between 8 and 9. They have rope guides set up to help you queue. Lots of exclusive merchandise if that's your thing.

HUGE lines on Saturday. Fortunately for those waiting, buskers perform on the sidewalks around the area to keep things lively.

This seems pretty popular. There were lots of people outside waiting to get in. There was an acapella group singing outside to entertain. The AT&T wireless network extended all the way across the street from Starbucks.

Opened in 1975, it's the second Starbucks location, but the oldest surviving, and obviously thriving at the core of tourist-choked Pike Place. For the most part the mob wants their coffee before they can devote any brain cells to coffee history.
