Alamogordo, New Mexico: Scrap Metal Roadrunner
Maybe 15 feet tall, built by Larry Berry, the owner of a junkyard (with the help of local high school students), in 1976. In early 2025 Larry moved the bird to stand in front of a gym owned by his grandson.

Scrap metal paisano doing well for its age. Easily accessible and a decent pullover to safely park your vehicle and take photos.
[Britt Marley, 06/17/2013]Looks like it has been moved again. It is in a gravel pull-off by itself next to Highway 70 just inside the business' gate. The business itself is back quite a ways from the road. Sculpture is up on a green cable spool and the base is strapped down. While I was there, about 5 minutes, two other cars came in, drove around the bird, and left. Popular!
[Saralyn, 05/01/2010]The Roadrunner is still there, just now its been moved down away from the road because a lot of people were standing on it and getting on it. Since it's so old, they didn't want it to get damaged. But it is still definitely there.

Recycled metal art roadrunner. Also on the property, on top of an old train caboose -- a recycled metal kokopelli.
[Douglas Watson, 06/01/2004]The road runner is the state bird for New Mexico but I've never seen one bigger than this one created out of scrap metal -- it must be at least 20 feet tall. There are also a couple of scrap dinosaurs at the recycling center.
