Civil War Ironclad - CSS Albemarle

Don't miss the replica of one of the two rifled cannon that were aboard the CSS Albemarle. Imagine being inside this ironclad when they were fired!

The Ironclad ship replica is very nice, definitely worth a stop, and there is a lighthouse about a five minute stroll away.

Civil War Ironclad - CSS Albemarle

An unusual 63 ft. long replica of the CSS Albemarle can be found floating on the river behind the Plymouth Museum. While the museum has operating hours, the Albemarle is open all the time.

The history of the Albemarle is described on a sign board and you can easily see the thickness of the iron plates that covered the boat. I can only imagine that the full-size boat was quite fearsome! It is moored to a dock with a fishing pier off to the side.

Local boys were fishing there and had their licenses checked by a DNR officer while we watched. On the other side of town is an unexpected lighthouse. It's very picturesque and in good repair.
