Site of the First US Gold Rush

"There's gold in them thar hills" was first declared on the Dahlonega town square. So much gold was mined from the area that a U.S. Mint was established, a building that now has been renovated and restored for use as the Administration building for North Georgia College and State University, just blocks southwest of the town square.
