Directions:
In Oak Hill Cemetery, whose entrance is on the north side of Oak Hill Rd, four blocks north of Hwy 66 and two blocks east of US 41. The Harrison obelisk is in Section 23, near a Confederate statue. Take Central Drive in from the entrance, then continue on Evergreen Drive; the obelisk will be on the right.
Hours:
Gates open M-F 7:30-4:30, Sa 9-1 Local health policies may affect hours and access.

Grave of a Gypsy Queen

Elizabeth Harrison was the queen of a tribe of Romany Gypsies when she died in 1895. The undistinguished obelisk that marks her grave hardly does justice to her colorful heritage.

Much larger grave marker than the previous photo indicates. Despite the rain, and the fact that we were looking for a smaller stone....we found the Grave of a Gypsy Queen!

The Gypsy queen grave is within a few hundred feet of that Confederate soldier memorial. Also, her sons are buried next to her, but where's her husband? [Johnny, 08/26/2014]
