New York, New York: Ghostbusters Headquarters

Hook and Ladder 8 is the narrow, quirky old Tribeca firehouse used as "Ghostbusters" headquarters in the 1984 film and its many cartoon and video game spinoffs. The firefighters' badge features an x-ed out ghost logo. In 2012, it was on the city chopping block to be closed to save money.

Festively decorated when we visited in late December. The gentleman on duty said during the holidays it can get pretty busy. There are some collectibles on display, and a few souvenirs for purchase. It's still an active firehouse, so if a call comes in everyone needs to clear out.

Who ya gonna call? My daughter's must-see Roadside America sight! Since it is one of her favorite movies, we could not miss this prior to leaving NYC. Definitely worth the stop for avid fans of Ghostbusters!

The Ghostbusters Building ( NYFD Hook and Ladder #8) is currently covered in mesh netting. A big sign says that the building is being rehabilitated, so at least there's no danger of it being demolished (as we thought back in 2012). I'm not sure when the work will be completed.

FDNY Hook and Ladder Company 8 is a working fire department, but there are nods to its role in movie comedy history. When Ghostbuster Harold Ramis died in 2014, an ad hoc memorial sprang up on the sidewalk.
