In September 1941, Lindsay unveiled its Boy and the Boot fountain. It was donated by an artist in Toronto (no idea where he/she acquired it) and arrived in Lindsay in gratitude for the town's generous contributions to the British War Victims' Fund. Lindsay dedicated the Boy to the children of Great Britain, apparently viewing him as emblematic of England's battered-and-tattered kids, and perhaps unaware that the Boy and the Boot was a mass-produced statue sold out of a New York City catalog since the 1870s.
The Boy stood at the entrance to Lindsay's fairgrounds for over 60 years, and when the fairgrounds moved in 2007, the Boy went with them. Now gilded with a gold finish, the Boy stands in the boardroom of the Lindsay Agricultural Society. He is not currently available to the public, but the Exhibition hopes to have him hooked up to a fountain and back on display soon.
