Mermaid Wasp Habitat

While there is still a mermaid at the Norfolk Botanical Gardens, the older one that might have hosted hornets has been removed and replaced. The garden itself is a great attraction including 155 acres of azaleas, roses, camellias, hydrangeas and so much more. You can also find a children's water park, a butterfly house and a nesting bald eagle.

Mermaid Wasp Habitat

Be careful if touching this Norfolk Mermaid Logo. The vent casts are just large enough to allow the water to drip out and the wasps fly in. Located in front of the visitors center of Norfolk Botanical Gardens habitat for thousands of plants and critters. Best time to visit is in May during full nesting and blooming season.

Kids play for hours in the child water & slide garden, or on Lady Bug tram around the entire property. I Spotted scarlet ibis, white heron, and gators in one day as well as eagle nestlings on the Eagle Cam.

Mermaid City - Community Art Project

Norfolk, Virginia has over 300 mermaids, ten feet long and the "Heart & Art Mermaid Story Walking Trails." More mermaids are being made daily for this massive public art project that is still alive and growing six years after its beginning!

Though not really giving Weeki Wachee serious competition for the "City of Mermaids" title, Norfolk mermaids are identical statues modified by artists, similar to other community art projects (though these are said to be more permanent). The photo shows live Norfolk ladies dressed as mermaids; we can't promise you'll see this on your visit.

Norfolk Mermaids - Community Art Project

Norfolk, Virginia has hundreds of 10-foot-long mermaid sculptures all over the city. They are the city's permanent symbol. Playing "Find the Mermaids" has become a huge tourist pastime. Nobody has found them all...yet.
