I think it's a touching memorial, worth checking out.

They've tried pesticide, coatings, cement fills - but the old 5 story cottonwood tree is yielding to infestation.
Ironic that the very technique used to make a memorial made it weak against infestation.
Chief Wasatch carved as part of the 50 States Series by Peter "Wolf" Toth; he's done over 70. Stands at main entrance to Murray Park only 70 feet from sidewalk. You can drive right by, or just walk up the park lawn to read the plaque. Best view is by moonlight.

The sculpture of Chief Wasatch was dedicated in 1985, carved by Peter "Wolf" Toth from a cottonwood tree. As the plaque notes: "in honor of Utah Native Americans -- Southern and Northern Ute, Southern Shoshone, Goshutes, Paiute, and Navajo."
