Piedmont, South Carolina: Street Corner Grave of Little Leila Howell

Little Leila is buried alone on a street corner. She died in 1859 and her tombstone is probably taller than she was (she was only three). Why here? Is this where she fell off of a horse?

Address:
Shirley Rd, Piedmont, SC
Directions:
I-185 exit 10, then drive south on Hwy 20/Piedmont Hwy for about three-quarters of a mile. The headstone is on the right, at the corner of Piedmont Hwy and Shirley Rd.

Street Corner Grave of Little Leila Howell

Nothing new, just a picture.

[Lisa Howell, 05/07/2010]

Not much known about this girl who died in 1859 at the age of 3 1/2. It's an incongruous, lone grave, all by itself along the road.
