People who stand at "The Place" monument are actually at the wrong place -- and the monument marking the right place is only a couple hundred yards away.

This attraction is no longer free. It's now part of the "This Is The Place" organization. There is a fence with a sign on the path leading to the monument stating admission charge required beyond this point.

On March 15. I dropped by "This Is The Place" park to see the monument. The directions on your site are good. When you're driving toward the back of the parking lot as instructed, you'll be able to see the bright white monument on the little hill. The obelisk has engraving on one side, a plaque on the other. From the plaque side you can see the larger, misplaced monument in the background (And also the infamous Salt Lake Valley smog in the distance!).
[Candace S., 03/17/2013]Heading through the parking lot, headed out, we saw a paved road off to the right. The monument was at the top, nice easy walk without.
