The sculptural tribute to the LA County Fire Dept's Lifeguard Division depicts surfing lifeguard Tim Kelly, who died in 1964 (in a car crash, not a wipeout). The first figure, made in 1965, was composed of plaster and fiberglass and stood at Tim's favorite surf beach. This version is bronze, recast in 2005, and situated next to Hermosa Beach Pier.
