There is no longer a genie but the lamp is still there.

The genie is missing. The lamp needs some repair, so maybe the genie is getting cleaned up.

The annual National Date Festival is held each February at the Riverside County Fairgrounds in Indio. The Coachella Valley area since 1904 has provided Americans with the several varieties of the sweet and delicious dates grown all across the valley. Today, 95% of the dates consumed in the U.S. come from this area of Southern California. If you can't attend the National Date Festival, at least stop to enjoy this bit of Arabia in the desert.
The main entrance to the Riverside County Fairgrounds on HWY 111 has a great Middle Eastern-styled gate complex, complete with golden domes and date palm silhouettes on the fence. The back of the fairgrounds is home to two larger-than-life sculptures depicting a genie and a magic lamp. The sculptures were placed at this entrance located at Gate 6 in 1981.
