Town Named Hell
The name of the town I visited was Hell, Michigan. There wasn't much to Hell -- a country store and a Halloween/ice cream shop. Neither business had public restrooms, but you could use the port-o-johns on the side of the store.
[Melissa Schuster, 10/29/2009]Hell, Michigan
Fun town. The Ice Cream/Gift shop is only open on the weekends during the winter according to the very friendly owner. He told us all about the town, the kinds of visitors and tourists he's had and about one of the morning network tv shows being there. I took my 5 year old, who was spooked by the store, so the owner was nice enough to give her the one ring she wanted. He said he doesn't like little kids to be that scared.
He told me about the ice cream sundaes the kids make in the summer, where all the toppings are arranged in the coffin there, and he showed the kids how to turn water into snow.
[Lynn Van Hoose, 02/18/2007]The town of Hell is counting on revelers to show up this Tuesday, June 6, 2006, to celebrate the devilish calendar convergence of 6-6-6. According to local news reports, Hell's mayor has loaded up his souvenir shop with 666 merchandise -- t-shirts, coffee mugs -- and stocked only 666 of each item.

Funny little town. We visited the Ice Cream/Gift Shop and the Dam Site Inn while in Hell. Both were fun, friendly, and just twisted.

Meterologists often reference the temperature in Hell, Michigan... they LOVE to mention that it is a "cold day in Hell." There is a post office substation in the convenience store and they will remail letters for you with the official "Hell" cancellation of the stamp. This service is apparently popular around mid-April when some folks have their tax return forwarded from Hell. You must attach appropriate postage to the article to be remailed and then place the item to be remailed in another larger envelope and mailed to "Postmaster, Hell, MI" with the appropriate zip code and postage on the container envelope... I don't believe there is any charge for doing so... in fact, I'm pretty sure that would probably be against postal regulations.)
