The entrance arch to Camp Bullowa is flanked by two small Boy Scout statues; the Paul Bunyan Muffler Man is a little further on, next to the parking lot. His steady gaze and sure grip on a custom-made double-sided axe (perhaps someone's Eagle Scout project?) has inspired generations of youth on outdoor adventures. The manly virtues of Muffler Men are espoused on a nearby wooden sign:Trustworthy, Loyal, Helpful, Friendly.... wait, that's just the "Boy Scout Law"...
In any event, this is the first Muffler Man we've observed with tuffs of chest hair poking out of his shirt.
[Roadsideamerica.com Team, 04/22/2006]Muffler Man in traditional blue pants, red shirt Paul Bunyan garb, is the unofficial mascot of Camp Bullowa Boy Scout Camp of the Hudson Valley Council.
As an interesting aside, he used to be on top of the amphitheater at camp, which overlooks the lake. Three or four times a year he would be shoved off the cliff and found floating face down in the lake like some sort of mafia hit. He now stands near the camp ranger's house for safekeeping as he welcomes visitors into camp.
