- On the southbound side of US 31/Montgomery Hwy just north of its intersection with Shades Creek Rd/County Rd 97. Only accessible southbound. As you reach the top of the hill, the turnoff for the temple will be on the right.

The small, circular temple is all that remains of the estate of Birmingham mayor George Battey Ward, who lived, alone, in Roman splendor until he died in 1940.

Pretty, and great view from the top! I've driven by several times, but didn't know the history before visiting. Also, there's a bathroom by the parking.

A cute little public garden in the hills outside Birmingham is the backdrop for a Sibylline Temple, moved from the property of George B. Ward, former mayor and lover of Roman temple architecture. While small (a 20 minute visit is typical), it has beautiful views, a butterfly garden and public rest rooms. It is just really well done, and the people of Birmingham can be rightly proud of this little treasure in their backyard.
