Good news -- the area around the school and dome has been cleaned up nicely. No glass on the ground, and the lawn is mowed for easy travel. Bad news, the dome seems to have aged, and the eagle featured at the top in prior pictures is no longer present.

You really don't need to get off the interstate to see this. I did, and it is on the property of the old Granite Schoolhouse, which was boarded up. I didn't get out the car because the schoolhouse looked like people had kicked down the boards, so I opted to drive to the cupola through the grass, which was something I regretted as there were rocks and pits in the ground, and it's not the most ideal place to pop a tire.
The cupola showed signs of weathering, but it was still pretty cool to see since it's not often they are ground level.
The road past the cupola is actually a very beautiful area.

Just made a visit. Unfortunately, the dome is surrounded by broken glass...a lot of it. Still neat to see.

20 minutes west of Cheyenne on I-80, exit 342 there is the old dome from the Capitol building. I met the man who restored it and placed it next to an old granite school house. When you get up close to the dome there is a plaque on it that reads "Dome on the Range." The dome is visible from I-80 and it is easy to drive up and park beside the school and look at the dome. A sign on the fence says "Capitol Dome 1917." And the school house date reads 1892.
