Directions:
From downtown Lake City drive south three miles on CO-149. Just after the road veers left and crosses a little bridge, look on the left for the large "Alferd Packer Massacre Site" sign. Turn left. Just past a house on the left, you'll see the site.

Alferd Packer Cannibal Massacre Site

A small rock marks the massacre spot, complete with a plaque listing the toothsome victims. Currently closed to visitors

Alferd Packer Cannibal Massacre Site

Someone has decided to block off this site as private property.

The massacre site is on private property, and the owner had problems with unruly visitors, so it's been gated. The local history museum is working to arrange tours of the site, but nothing has been firmed up yet.
