Tucson, Arizona: Avatar 9/11 Memorial
A blue angel rises from a pile of concrete rubble, holding the Earth above its head. Built in 2002 by a group of local high school students; their blue creature was seven years ahead of its time.

- Directions:
- On the south side of the city, on the south side of E. Irvington Rd, just west of its intersection with S. Tucson Blvd. I-10 exits 264 or 264B. Drive north and then quickly turn left onto E. Irvington Rd. Drive back under the freeway and continue for about a mile. The memorial will be on the left, just past the intersection of E. Benson Hwy/S. Tucson Blvd, under a small group of trees.

On this historic day it was fitting to visit this site. Nicely done to the ones who made it. Wish it was in a better part of town or at least more visible. Tucson has a graffiti problem.

Eight high school students and Tucson artist David Campbell spent part of the summer of 2002 creating and installing a blue angel hoisting a globe overhead -- a tribute to the victims of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. The figure emerges from rubble, and a slab is labeled "Together We Rise."
