A large statue of a woman (Anna Bates) at the center of the cemetery marks the final resting places of the world's tallest couple as well as their infant son. They were Captain M.V. Bates (7' 9" tall and 470 pounds) - his wife, Anna Swan Bates (7' 11" tall and 413 pounds) and their Infant Boy (30" long and 23 3/4 pounds at birth. He lived only 11 hours).
The statue of Anna that marks the Bates' grave was commissioned by her husband and brought to the U.S. from Europe.

"The Giants Of Seville" were Martin Van Buren Bates (the "Kentucky River Giant") and Anna Swan (the "Giantess of Nova Scotia"). Martin was a Rebel officer in the Civil War and stood nearly eight feet tall -- and Anna was even taller. Both are buried under a life-size statue of Anna, who died first.
