The Hippie Muffler Man is still standing tall!

[Bill the Muffler Man, 09/03/2022]

He's weathered and teetering a bit, just like the real hippies.

Hippie Muffler Man

This tie-dyed, patched-jeans Muffler Man is right out of the Flower Power generation and stands on the property of Yasgar Farms/The Bethel Woods Center for The Arts, so he earns his "Hippie" moniker.

Lashed to a telephone pole at the waist, he sports hearts and flowers on his clothing as well as a handful of glow sticks fashioned into a lasso of sorts. He also had a necklace of glow sticks probably left over from some recent event.

One of the few Muffler Men to sport eyelashes (He's obviously in touch with his feminine side). He stands very close to Route 17B, so access is very good.

Hippie Muffler Man

Your readers might appreciate knowing that the Hippie Muffler Man started out life as a statue of Paul Bunyan (he used to hold an axe in his hands) prominently displayed year-round at the Great Danbury Fair in Danbury, Connecticut, until it closed its gates for good in 1981.

[Victoria H., 12/04/2013]

Several big men from the Danbury Fair went on to enjoy second careers, including the World's Tallest Uncle Sam.

The Hippie Muffler Man is still in good shape! He even has a necklace painted on him. While we were visiting him, we were honked at by two real Hippies. They flipped us the peace sign while driving a VW (although it was a Jetta). They then pulled into the Yasgur's Farm ... it was perfect!
