Ely, Minnesota: Pillow Rocks
Rare ellipsoidal lava flow formed beneath primeval sea 2.7 billion years ago. They look more like "Gray Peanut Brittle Rocks" to us, but we didn't write their evocative sign.

- Northeast edge of town. From MN-1/E. Sheridan St. turn north onto N. 14th Ave. E. and follow it four blocks until it ends. Turn left onto Main St. You'll see the Rocks ahead, on the right.

Located about four blocks off of Sheridan Street (Ely's "main drag"), the pillow rock sign has fallen into a bit of disrepair. There has been talk about moving the rocks to a different location, but I guess the locals oppose the idea.

The Pillow Rocks are around the corner from my house here in Ely. There are historical marker signs on Camp St., one block north of Sheridan St, the main drag in Ely.
