Durham, North Carolina: Concert Piano on a Pole (Gone)
Crumbling folk art pianos along the road advertised a piano and organ business under a billboard that proclaimed, "Music Makes You Smarter." Now the business is closed and only one piano remains.

Big Pianos
Piano and Organ Distributors has been closed for a few years and the upright piano that was on the ground is long gone, but the neon-trimmed grand piano on a pole is still there. Doesn't light up at night anymore, of course, since the business is gone, and the piano is starting to fall apart, but I guess that's to be expected since it's no longer maintained. It's been there since 1962.

The big wooden upright piano is gone! I drove by last week and it was leaning dangerously. When I drove by this morning, it was a pile of rubble.

Two big pianos: one used as a neon sign, and the other hidden back in the trees. I talked to the manager and he said that the one used as a sign has been there since 1962 and that it is a grand piano that had been gutted and had neon tubing put around it (makes me want to go by and see it at night).
The one in the woods just made me think of the Muffler Man and wonder if he ever took up piano.
