Visited in mid August on a weekday and had no problems getting into a tour, but we were there pretty close to opening. We were in the third group for the day. Parking and tickets are free for military. Tour takes around 35-45 minutes depending on the guide and the size of group.
The only other thing here is the gift shop, the small snack bar, and what appears to be a butterfly sanctuary if you're into that kind of thing.
Hit the Mystery Spot early to avoid the crowd and then spend your day at the beach/boardwalk and having fun in the sun.

Totally worth a detour! A lot of fun. I strongly recommend making reservations for a tour time. They were sold out and I saw many people without reservations turned away.
