In the middle of downtown Cheraw is a very cool 7-ft. tall bronze statue of jazz legend Dizzy Gillespie. Apparently he was born and raised in Cheraw until he moved away at 17.
The artist did an amazing job; you can see Dizzy's giant puffed-up cheeks and contorted trumpet from the street as you pass by.
