- Downtown. On E. Adams St., just west of its intersection with S. Michigan Ave. The sign is mounted so that it faces traffic driving west. There are a couple of older brown signs, and a newer sign at Adams and Wabash in the park corner.

[Brian From Rockland County NY, 10/22/2016]Based on a 2016 street view, older official brown highway signs are still installed on both sides of the street. This more artistic "Historic Route Begins" sign is on the corner of the tiny fenced park at Adams and Wabash.
The sign marking the start of historic Route 66 is located on the south side of Adams in front of the Panda Express.
