Fallen Giant Robot - Goldie 1971

"Goldie 1971" is a sculpture by artist Joe McCreary. It looks like a cross between Oz's Tin Man and the title character from the film "The Iron Giant," and is a memorial to the history of Birmingham, Alabama's fallen iron giant, the Sloss Furnaces.

Goldie is on display in the Woods Quad at the University of Alabama. Many online news articles about Goldie suggest that he was supposed to move on to a new home sometime in late 2009, but it now appears that he may be residing in Woods Quad indefinitely.
