Birthplace of Texaco

Sour Lake, Texas is the Birthplace of Texaco. There are historical markers around this small, sleepy town detailing the rise of Texaco.

Sour Lake was named for a lake that was thought to have healing waters. Many people traveled to Sour Lake to swim in the healing water. A large hotel was designed to showcase the lake but was never built due to the Depression.
