If you find yourself in Ely definitely book a ride on the train. The volunteers are awesome and the ride is informative and delightful. Also be sure to take a tour of the train shop, very interesting.
[Christy Shelton, 04/28/2016]The historic tracks and trains are kept operational and support a range of themed excursions throughout the year -- a Polar Express Train, Haunted Ghost Train, Fireworks Train, Chocolate Express, Wine Train, Oktoberfest. For a hefty fee, you can even operate a steam or diesel locomotive. The locomotives, freight cars, tracks, and 68 buildings are part of a 56-acre outdoor historic site known as the Nevada Northern Railway Museum. Visitors can wander the site, but with caution -- this can be as dangerous as any active railroad yard.
Tickets can be purchased online or at the museum, the Hotel Nevada and other Ely businesses.
