The ticket station at the top has a well-stocked gift shop, and also a restaurant where you can enjoy a panoramic view of the city as you dine. The ride alone is well worth the $4 (or less) round-trip fare!

After the 1889 Johnstown flood, the Inclined Plane was built to connect downtown with the higher Westmont Borough for area residential development. During Johnstown's two other floods, in 1936 and 1977, the Incline helped people get to higher ground as well as to ship supplies into the valley.
The Johnstown Inclined Plane is the steepest vehicular incline in the world. Its 30-ft long cars hold 65 people, six motorcycles or one vehicle. For a small admission fee, visitors can ride it.
