Joliet, Illinois: Old Joliet Prison Tours

1858 prison perhaps best known from the 1980 Blue Brothers movie as the jail where "Joliet Jake" was released. Tours began in 2018. Parking lot photo-ops include an old gas pump painted as a tribute to Jake and Elwood.

North Joliet, Collins St. and Woodruff Rd. Tours meet at the Old Joliet Prison parking lot just south of the prison walls.

By appt only via the prison website. Local health policies may affect hours and access.

This is the site where Jake, one of the Blues Brothers, was released from prison at the beginning of the movie. The prison has been closed for years, and now sits empty.

Signage has been added to a parking lot adjacent to the closed prison chronicling its history as a penal facility and its appearances in movies and TV.
