Alexandria, Virginia: Eisenhower: The Highway President (Gone)

President Dwight D. Eisenhower was instrumental in building the American interstate highway system. This large-than-life bronze of Ike in his Army general duds stands in a roundabout on Eisenhower Ave. He's probably thinking about how to replace it with an overpass and some feeder ramps.

Eisenhower - The Highway President

This statue has been removed and is in storage with the city until a new home can be found. The traffic circle that he stood in is being turned into a T-intersection.

Eisenhower - The Highway President

We like Ike! It was fun paying homage to the President who was responsible for our great interstate system, for our son who is getting his temporary driver's license - learner's permit!

Eisenhower -- The Highway President

This tribute to Dwight D. Eisenhower is located in Alexandria, VA in a roundabout intersecting Eisenhower Avenue and Holland Lane. DDE here is westward-facing, looking out across Eisenhower Ave. at just one of a near endless number of roads built under his administration.

Even though the statue is not specifically about Ike's highway-building prowess, you can stop to show your appreciation of America's 48,000 mile plus interstate system (the "Dwight D. Eisenhower National System of Interstate and Defense Highways").
