About 20 buildings remain in the former coal town of Thurmond, where less than 10 residents still live in the hills. The train line is actively used, and the National Parks maintain a museum in the old train depot.

Coal Mining Ghost Town
A former coal town -- now a ghost town. Original main buildings standing, and a CSX train still goes through town on the one lane bridge! It is rumored 7 people live there in the houses on the hills. This was a neat treat to see...very beautiful!
