Ludlow Memorial Site - Ghost Town

United Mine Workers went on strike in 1914, leading to a confrontation with the Colorado State Militia. 30 people were killed, including 11 children. Follow the road past the memorial site and turn left to see the ghost town that still exists. I-25 to the Ludlow exit. Follow road west.

This site is VERY easy to find, 12 miles north of Trinidad. We enjoyed reading the many information signs around the site.

Thought it was great that you can actually go into the pit. Large iron "door" covers the stairway. About the shape/size of a coffin. The handle was hot from being in the sun, but we used the information pamphlet to protect our hands. Dry and clean at the bottom of it.

Covered picnic tables at the site and a port-a-potty.
