A classic-cartoon-style flying saucer appears to have landed just outside the town post office. It was built for Earthlings to pose in front of it. Moonbeam was supposedly named for mysterious beams of light once visible in the night sky.

It's true -- there really is a UFO in Moonbeam!
[Tanya Staddon, 07/01/2017]Flying saucer, just north of (and visible from) Highway 11 in a little park. Highway 11 is the main road through the town. There's not much to see along this remote route, so this is a welcome, humorous attraction.

The flying saucer has been parked in Moonbeam since June 1991. Not all of the town's residents at the time were happy about it -- some reportedly wanted a giant fish -- but they've since embraced their civic symbol. The town now even has a little green alien as its cartoon mascot.
