Stainless Steel Atlas Rocket

Convair GCM-16 Atlas Rocket. First flown in June 1957, the Atlas long-range rocket was the launch vehicle that carried Lt. Col. John Glenn of the U.S. Marine Corps into orbital flight around the Earth on February 20,1962, the first human orbital flight in the western world.
