Twin Falls, Idaho: Evel Knievel's Snake River Jump Monument

You can hike out to the actual jump site and see the dirt ramp from the monument or the falls.

The prettiest view is right on the main drag. Well worth taking the time to take in the park and the Falls. Gorgeous.

Truck parking. Only bridge in America that you can parachute from without getting a permit. Just walk up and jump. Watched over 20 jumps today. Nice walking and bike path, too.

One view of the Snake River jump ramp can be accessed from the Canyon Trails hike inside Shoshone Falls park. $3 vehicle fee (Aug 2012). The park is worth the detour itself; the falls are spectacular.

I initially walked right past the monument, thinking it would be closer to the canyon edge -- went under the bridge to the other side and was delighted to see people jumping from the bridge. Not to worry -- there is a B.A.S.E. jumping business near the visitor center, and folks routinely (on good weather days) jump off the bridge of their own free will and try to land on a target painted on the ground on the south side of the canyon.

A local lady told me that Robbie Knievel recently expressed a formal desire to attempt the same jump that his father did not complete, but the current mayor and city council are against it, as Evel left town owing thousands of dollars to promoters and local folks (this according to the local lady, which may or may not be true, and is in no way meant to soil the memory of an American legend).
