I visited it recently and the place is really run down. Many of the creations are in disrepair, and walkways are blocked. When I first pulled into the parking lot, I thought that the attraction had been abandoned!
[James Quattlebaum, 02/02/2018]This place is funded by donations and is currently run down. I lived in the area when I took a trip to the Rock Garden and found it to be one of the most peaceful places around. Worth the visit if you're driving through. It's about 20 minutes off the main highway.

Midway between Bend and Redmond, the Petersen Rock Garden is such a fun roadside attraction. I'm pretty sure it hasn't changed since the 1950s, which is a great thing! Petersen built little landscapes, buildings and even bridges out of rocks that he and lots of other rock hounds found within 80 miles of the Garden.
I love the little room inside the museum that has the black light fluorescent rocks. You can also buy a rock from the garden, which is a great souvenir. The peacocks added a special something too.
