Glendale's Black Squirrel Origin Story traces them back to the 1940s when a Glendale businessman brought four from Harbor Springs, MI and let them go in town. One was shot dead within weeks, but the survivors went forth and multiplied. The hide of the shot squirrel may still hang in the village's Meritage Restaurant. A recent community art project featured decorated squirrel statues. An "official greeter" dead squirrel can be seen in the Glendale Village Office.
