Sporting a gaudy handpainted exterior complete with the giant plywood ice cream cone, Burk's Igloo is a longstanding neighborhood spot, serving soft-serve ice cream delights in a Dairy Queen style. It has been owned by the same family for 25 years. Before that it was a fried chicken shack, according to the current owner, so the giant ice cream cone was an aftermarket addition. Was there an oversized chicken leg there before it? We may never know.
If Burk's looks familiar to you, you may have seen it featured in the opening credits of HBO's Hung. As an added bonus, it is close by the Hamtramck Disneyland.
