Mississippi River Paddle Boat

Wow. Totally worth taking the tour. So much history. How the workers back in the 1920s worked in the heat is beyond our comprehension today.

Mississippi River Paddle Boat

The George M. Verity stern wheel paddle boat, is a dry-docked boat that spent many years working up and down the Mississippi and Ohio Rivers, and is on display in Keokuk. It cost $4/ea. You can see it just down river from the dam and locks on the river in Victory Park. It is partially restored, but it will never run down the river again.

This is a piece of river history that you can walk around, touch, see, and feel what it must have been like back in the day. Worth seeing if you're in the area. After the tour of the boat, go up to the old railroad bridge and check out the locks. Also run up and see the statue of Chief Keokuk (not how he spelled it) -- It has a nice view of the river.
