Authors' Ridge - The Literary Dead
The cemetery contains the graves of the great writers of the 1800s' transcendental era (Emerson, Alcott, Thoreau and Hawthorne). Also, the grave of artist Daniel Chester French -- who sculpted the minuteman at the nearby Old North Bridge, as well as the seated Lincoln at the Lincoln Memorial in DC.
People leave pens and pencils for their favorite authors and pennies (Lincoln memorial side up). Short walk from the center of town.
