Oyster Bay, New York: Teddy Roosevelt Home and Museum
Teddy Roosevelt had a vacation home built on a Long Island hilltop in 1885, and it gradually became the first Summer White House and then the Roosevelt family's full-time dwelling. Exhibits reflect Teddy's full-throttle lifestyle and include one of his Rough Rider uniforms -- they were tailored for the wealthy Roosevelt by Brooks Brothers -- and many mounted dead animals on the floors and walls.

Sagamore Hill was Teddy Roosevelt's home before, during, and after his presidency. Called the Summer White House during Teddy's administration. Be sure to check out the elephant foot inkwell, and the sunken great room in the back of the house.
